The experience of the activity of the school social pedagogical service in Ukraine in 1920–1936 years is summarized in the article. Its composition is determined. Its purpose is to promote the education of the politically oriented, collectivist developed and socially active personality through the positive influence on the school, the family environment and the individual child. Functioning objectives are to promote the formation of the children’s collective, to uncover the pupils’ social activity; to provide the successful interaction between schools and families; to organize leisure time activities for children within the school; to help pupils to choose a profession deliberately; to facilitate the successful socialization of the children who need the special attention and help (children, exposed to begging, vagrancy and committing crimes, prone to take alcohol and drugs). Leading directions of work of the native social-pedagogical service in comprehensive schools of the definite period are determined and characterized; its basic functions in the process of the children’s collective education, the interaction with the pupil’s family, the career guidance and the organization of leisure time activities for pupils, ensuring the successful socialization of "difficult" children are shown. Some shortcomings that prevented the successful functioning of the school social-pedagogical service during the definite period are also found out. Namely they are the poor material support of the social-pedagogical activity at the national level; the discrepancy of forms and methods of the social-pedagogical activity with minors suffering from the alcohol and drug addiction and features of the work.
