Abstract

The article deals with the problem of modern, candid and thorough analysis of the texts of Oleksiy Kundzich’s social realistic canon, and the investigation of the poetic style of his novelistics of the late 1920s–early 1930s on the example of the short novel “Scolopendra” and the story “A high road near Ai-Petri”. Distinction of its genre and formal content components are emphasized; also transformations of creative intentions and previous literary texts of the writer into new ones, which was a common thing for his literary practice, are analysed. On the example of comparison of “Scolopendra” and “A high road near Ai-Petri” ominous tendencies of the Enemy image being “screwed into” the public conscience of the late 1920s are demonstrated (Oleksiy Kundzich being an empathic and honest artist already records this tendency in his works). The material of the article can be used for the further investigation of the Ukrainian literature of the fi rst half of the XX century.

Key words: novelistics, poetic style, a short novel, a story, social realistic canon.
