On Tuesday night, Coventry were denied a victory by Wigan at the DW Stadium due to an unfortunate own goal from Ryan Nyambe with eight minutes left on the clock. With that goal, City leapfrogged their rivals into fourth place in the Sky Bet Championship play-off race with a 1-1 draw.

Latics had put on a lively display, supported by some impressive defending, as they kept pressure on their hosts throughout the first half. Max Power's shot from distance was saved by Ben Wilson while Danel Sinani saw another attempt go just wide of the post.

As the game progressed, Wigan gained confidence and created several chances of their own through some excellent passing plays. They also worked hard for an equaliser as they sought to secure victory.

Coventry, who have now lost three games in a row and remain bottom of the table, had an opportunity to take the lead when Hamer skillfully played in Sean Maguire. The forward was able to get past Amos before turning smartly but his shot was too close for comfort.

Wigan began to gain control of the game, with Ashley Fletcher setting up Tendayi Darikwa for a stunning curling effort that fell just short. Despite that, Wigan still found themselves behind in terms of goals.

On the other end, Mat Godden was denied twice by Amos before Coventry made their breakthrough with Jake Bidwell crossing for Viktor Gyokeres to head home from close range on seven minutes of the second half. Despite their good start, Coventry were always likely to slip back in their quest to avoid being dropped.

Wilson made several impressive saves, and Matt Godden had two good chances to score for the visitors. Unfortunately, after making a clever run and hitting the ball well with it, Wilson called offside as he attempted to take advantage of its bounce.

Wigan missed an excellent chance to take the lead when Danel Sinani was sent through on goal. Wilson denied him, but his second effort at goal was a powerful angled shot which the keeper could only push into the corner.

After a slow start, Coventry soon found their stride and were in control of the game in the middle. Their defense had to remain alert throughout, while midfield were quick to respond by sending in crosses as the match progressed.

Coventry put on a strong performance, though they were lacking the crucial goals. Despite the draw, they earned their point and must improve upon this record in the second half of this campaign if they want to remain up this season.
